Yep, I rear ended someone this morning. Oh happy days.
It wasn't a major wreck by any means. It was one of those where you're the 2nd car in line at a stop sign, you think they guy in front is going, you start inching up, you look back at a distraction in the back seat and SMACKO!! Nice little fender bender to start the day right. Actually, it didn't even ding a fender. I hit a big plumbing van and his tow ball bent my license plate. I couldn't have been going more than 5mph, but it's enough to jolt you. The wife is taking Miss Squiggles to the doc just in case, but I think we're all going to be fine. That is, unless, the plumbing company decides to file with the insurance, but the driver assured me there wasn't enough damage to warrant that. We'll have to see.
This is my first accident of any kind since 1996 when I hit a patch of ice and rear ended a pick up in my Tercel. 13 years since I rear ended a preist, an almost identical situation to the one today. I'm all kinds of scattered now. I missed 3 exits coming into work and was over correcting for everything I was doing. I felt like Cougar in Top Gun. Couldn't quite get it back, going to have to turn in my wings. Last night, after another distracting event, I drove home without having Rowan in a seat belt. Then today...I just need to take the bus for a few days. Something's not right.
I'm just glad I didn't hit a kid going through a school zone.
So a cup of coffee and 2 smokes later I'm just now starting to come down a bit. I'm glad I did this on the way to work so I have something to take my mind of it, but I'll be constantly worried about a 2 year old with whiplash.
Yay for rushing into work.
